[private]property.

[private]property. was an installation for Reproductive Rights Advocacy Alliance Malaysia (RRAAM) in collaboration with International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) exhibition, "Abort The Stigma" which ran for 2 weeks from September 28th to October 6th 2019 in REX KL, Kuala Lumpur.

[private]property. was conceptualised through my understanding that an abortion is multifaceted and layered. I didn't want to frame it through a singular lens, which I feared creating a single painting or text might cause, and hence assume one aspect of it. It's full of questions and not all with answers.

Resolution and grief, in tension to each other, suspend the body in a space that is wholly theirs and yet, for some, the privacy is not absent in history. I wanted to document the body in this suspension, and hence create an immersive piece., where the viewer must step in if they wish to fully understand and experience it. I collaborated with a woman who experienced an abortion. I wanted her narrative to be heard and held instead of my own. Could we articulate and also receive her story without including our own politics? Could we collectively hold space?  I assisted and helped to facilitate and curate as she made the major components of the installation.

The installation consisted of 3 paintings, made through impressions by her body over paint, 3 boxes containing letters, written to the herself, her partner, and the child, and a curated playlist of songs.
